Greetings to this wonderful club, to its administration, and to all of its fine members.
I was thrilled when a friend from ShadiaStar club gave me the link to this site, and after I looked through the forum pages and saw all the treasure and the great contributions.
I am not much of a historian, but I can help a great deal technically, and add some fine quality (audio-wise) songs to the collection.
I have been in love with the late "sitt", may her soul be resting in God's peace, since I was a teen-ager in the late 1960's!

I am amazed at the effort being done by the various members, and it is very much appreciated.

One thing I noticed is that many of these wonderful treasures (if not most) are converted to MP3 at a very low sampling rates, like 8 ks/s (kilo samples per second), 16 ks/s, 32 ks/s, etc., perhaps in the interest of making smaller file sizes!
Unfortunately these sampling rates do not do Umm Kulthoom any justice because such low rates destroy the sound quality.

I am very much sure that some people do not understand the destruction that such sampling rate does to the sound file (the song).
Anything below 192 ks/s will not do the "sitt" any justice.

MP3 is a lossy format to begin with, even at its highest rate of 320 ks/s, but 192 ks/s will sound very good, and it is hard to distinguish between 192 and any highr rates (such as 225, 256, and 320 ks/s), at least for most people.

My big request is that if someone has "Fakir Lemma Kunt Ganby" on a CD, or a cassette, or vinyl record to please, please, please upload a high quality copy, sampled at at least 160 ks/s.
This is the only song of the "sitt"'s major songs that I don't have in high quality MP3, and I can't find a CD (or cassette) here in the US for it.

I have listened to the copies that are here, sampled at 32 ks/s, and sadly they just don't compare very much to Umm Kulthoom's voice.
They simply do not sound good at all.

This is not to put down the effort of the wonderful people who uploaded them. But, as a specialized sound engineer (electrical and computer engineer by education), I am simply trying to explain some technical issues that many people may not be aware of. But please forgive me if you already understand these technicalities.
My intention is only to improve the quality of what we upload here, and NOT to criticize anyone at all.

Once again, my sincere thanks to everyone in this fine club, and I hope to be able to contribute to it with some high quality uploads after I finish touring the various pages to see what is available and what is not.
